Peixe Vivo Project: A sustainable action for the preservation of brazilian rivers

DATE

Last Saturday, December 7, 2024, the second edition of the Peixe Vivo Project took place, featuring the release of 16,000 fingerlings into the Pouso Alegre Stream, part of the Tietê River Basin. Jaupavi, proud to be the main sponsor of this important initiative, reaffirms its commitment to conserving Brazil’s water resources and biodiversity.

The Importance of the Peixe Vivo Project

The Peixe Vivo Project, led by the Technical Institute for Environmental Management in partnership with the Only Agency, aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 14, “Life Below Water,” one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The project’s core mission is to preserve and protect Brazilian rivers through actions that ensure the balance of aquatic ecosystems.

The initiative not only promotes the release of native fish species such as Dourado, Piau, Curimba, Lambari, Pacu, and Pintado but also invests in environmental education, the recovery of riparian forests, and the protection of spring forests. The project’s ambitious annual goal is to release 100,000 fingerlings into various hydrographic basins across the country.

Pouso Alegre Stream: Revitalization and Hope

The most recent action marked a significant step toward environmental recovery in the Tietê River Basin region, one of Brazil’s most important and threatened basins. The release of 16,000 fingerlings into the Pouso Alegre Stream symbolizes more than a preservation effort; it represents the positive impact that collective efforts can bring to the environment and future generations.
